What areas can be treated with the laser?

The CoolGlide Laser System can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, areola, and bikini line. Other than the shaping of eyebrows, there are no parts of the body where the laser cannot safely go.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 6-9 treatments, but the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hairs’ thickness, the area treated, and your hairs’ growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Our laser systems work by disabling the hair that is in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments are necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

Is it safe?

The beauty of our technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterward, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk, and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Call us to scheduled an initial consultation. This an opportunity for you to state your goals and expectations and to learn what the laser can and cannot do  specifically for you. During this meeting we will discuss your personal goals for laser hair removal. We will describe our process and will ask you to complete a brief medical history and establish that you have no contraindications to laser treatment. A test area may be treated if you desire. Prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed if you have a history of perioral or genital  herpes.

Can anyone have it done?

No laser or light-based system can treat blonde, white, red or gray hair since there is no melanin in it to absorb the light. With our CoolGlide system people with any other color hair, any skin type and even tanned skin can receive treatment.

Does laser hair removal work on all types of hair and skin color?

The laser's hair of choice is brown or black with a coarse texture. It will also remove hair that is fine, although more treatments may be required. Advanced laser technology is safe for all skin tones, including men and women of color and people who are tanned; however, not all lasers in use are appropriate for darker skin.  The ideal laser type for darker tones is an Nd:Yag 1064 wave length with a high peak power, such as the Cutera CoolGlide.  If your hair is white, gray, blond or red, no laser is likely to achieve permanent results. Laser treatment is NOT recommended for indiviuals who have been on Accutane during the past year.
